Ada Bell Scales, affectionately known as "Red," daughter of Louella Dunlap and Frank Dunlap, was born October 17, 1930 in Winston-Salem, NC. She departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Novant Health Medical Center after a short period of illness.
Ada attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and was a graduate of Atkins High School. Upon graduation, she became employed at Wachovia Bank & Trust Co. and retired in 2003.
Ada, often called "Mother Scales," joined Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age and faithfully served with the Deaconess Ministry, Sunday School, Senior Ushers, Women's Chorus, participated with the Chancel Choir annually for their Easter Cantata; Sheepfold Ministry, Women's Ministry and Bereavement Committee. She also served with the YOKE Ministry (Forsyth Correctional Center-Cherry Street and the Forsyth County Missionary Union.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Barbara Ann Scales, Priscilla Elaine Scales; grandson, Antonio Leverne Scales (Elaine); cousins who were like sisters, Doris Bines and Evelyn Dunlap.
Loving and precious memories will be cherished by her daughter, Willette Scales of the home; brother, Arthur Mitchell of Nevada; grandchildren, Stephone Scales, LaTangela Scales Williams, Michael Scales, Ereka Scales and Leroy Scales, Sr.; a host of great grands, great-great grands; and close family members, The Bines, Dunlap, Truesdale and Brim Families; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday August 24, 2024 at Shiloh Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12pm-1:00pm at the church Saturday. Her remains may be viewed Friday August 23, 2024 from 12pm-6pm at Hooper Funeral Home.
