Alphonzo Gregory Byrd, aka "Greg" and "Byrdman" was born December 8, 1960 to the late John Strokes and Jessie Bell Byrd in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County public schools. Greg loved playing basketball and he truly loved his family. In additon to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Latoya Cook; brothers, Archie Nash and Darren Singletary, an aunt who raised him as her son, Evangelist Barbara Nash Bennett.

Greg departed this life Sunday November 1, 2026 at Trellis Supportive Care Center following a period of illness..

He is survived by a granddaugher, Diamond Corpinton; one great great grandson; siblings,  Voncent Nash and Tracey Wright; aunts Jacqueline E. Byrd and Jacqueline B. (Boyce) Harris; a devoted friend Yvette, and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Service of memory will be held at 12:30pm  Saturday Novermber 21, 2026 at Greater Emmanuel Word of Faith Christian Church, 4150 Mecum Road Walkertown, NC . The family will receive friends from 12 noon-12:30pm
