Obituary

Amy Annette Mitchell Douthit of Winston-Salem, NC was born Amy Annette Mitchell on October 21, 1958 in Salisbury, NC to the late Sophia Pearline McCorey Mitchell and Calvin Frank Mitchell, Sr. Amy graduated from North Rowan High School in 1977. She moved to Winston-Salem, NC shortly after graduation where she resided until her death.

Amy gained her heavenly wings on Monday August 15, 2022 at the Trellis Supportive Care Center.

She was a long time faithful member of Union Chapel Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the usher board. In 2001 Amy was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a battle she lived out loud for 21 years by faith. While living with myeloma, she was also diagnosed in 2019 with breast cancer and congestive heart failure. In June 2022, she was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure and in July 2022 she was diagnosed with bladder cancer.

Amy didn't allow her illness to define her. She used her journey as a testament to God's grace and mercy. She lived life demonstrating her faith. One of her favorite sayings was, "I'm kicking, but not high". Amy knew her journey was bigger than her and made it her mission to pour into others.

Amy was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and didn't mind letting you know about it!  She proudly wore her countless Dallas paraphernalia. One of her most memorable moments was in 2012 when she and her grandson CJ went to see Dallas play against the Carolina Panthers. Amy loved life and living it to the fullest. She loved to travel and spend time with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and friends. She was big on family and her house was always welcoming.

Amy was preceded in death by her brother Eddie Mitchell.

Those left to cherish to precious memories are her loving and devoted children: Michelle Mitchell, Toya(Allan) Thomas of Powder Springs, GA, Kenton L. Hall Sr.(Christina) Raina Douthit(Justin); loving niece/daughter Sheca Mitchell; grandkids, Christa Cuthrell (Kheeze) Christopher (CJ) Cuthrell, Christin (Lil Bit) Cuthrell, Kenton Hall Jr., Kaleb Hall, Keyshawn Hall, Chloe Chaney-Jones, Jax Avery and honorary granddaughter, Makenzie Williamson; great grandkids, D'Vaughn Bowman, Danielle Mitchell and Daylin Gray; sisters, Cynthia Mitchell and Denise Mitchell of Salisbury, NC; brothers, Calvin Mitchell Jr., Dale (Robin) Mitchell, Kevin (Dornswalo) McCorey and Alex (Etrunda) Mitchell; aunts, Magdalene (Frank) Oglesby and Viola Thompson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

A service celebrating her life will be held 1:00 pm Saturday August 27, 2022 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm-1:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
