Ms. Annie Mae Belton, daughter of Johnnie and Lillian Belton, was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on November 19, 1935. She departed this life Wednesday August 11, 2021 at her residence.
Annie was educated in the local public schools and was a 1953 graduate of Atkins High School. In 1957 she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Winston-Salem Teachers College (now Winston-Salem State University). She obtained her Master's degree from North Carolina Central University.
Annie taught in the Goldsboro City Schools and later in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County System where she retired after 34 years of service.
Spiritually, she was a member of Shiloh Baptist where she served on the Chancel Choir, Deaconess Ministry, Sheepfold Ministry, Bell Choir and Adult Sunday School.
She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Juanita B. Townsend, brother, Eugene Belton and nephew, Darryl Belton.
Annie leaves to cherish most dear and precious memories a devoted nephew, Terry L. Townsend Sr. (Frankie); niece, Suzette Belton; nephews, Corey Belton and Eugene Belton III; three great nieces, Kuru Smith, Meshia L. Miller and Chloe Belton; four great nephews, Terry L. Townsend, Jr., Jonathan Townsend, Tyree Townsend and Brent Belton; a host of other relatives and friends including a longtime friend, Mrs. Mildred L. Patterson and good friend Jeanette Porter.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday August 17, 2021 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Paul A. Lowe, jr. officiating
