Mrs. April Gloria Mills-Valdez was born  July 22, 1982  in Blacksburg,  VA to James Allen (Jimmy) Mills, Sr. and Julie Yvonnie (Von) Simpson. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church-Pearisburg VA where she was a member of the youth choir and usher board.

She was a graduate of Christiansburg High School Class of 2000 where she played on the soccer team as the goalie. She did volunteer work for the Christiansburg Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Mills Valdez is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. She was employed by U-Haul as an office manager and also Big daddy's storage for FMI.

On July 12, 2013 she married  Omar Valdez Vieyra and to this union three children were born. She was a devoted wife and mother.

Preceding her in death was a daughter,  Ada Yvonnie Valdez; sister Virginia (Ginny) Oakes;  her paternal grandparents, Aubrey and Mary Mills; maternal grandparents Thomas (Juneboy) Simpson and  Gloria M. Smith; uncle Billy Smith; aunt Lorine D. Collins; cousins Melissa (Kizzy) Smith and  Brian Antoine Ramsey, and a special friend LuCinda Ramirez.

She departed this life Wednesday June 11, 2025 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center following a period of illness

April leaves cherished memories to her husband, Omar Valdez Vieyra;  two children, Adalena Izabella, and Aaliyah Elizabeth Dawn; her parents, James "Jimmy" Allen Mills Sr. and Julie Yvonnie "Von" Simpson; siblings James "Jamie"(Jessie)Mills Christiansburg, VA, and Terry (Denise) Simpson Hopewell, VA; aunts & uncles: Ada Bratcher, Lexington Park, MD, Brenda Ramsey Blacksburg, VA, Rosetta (Gregory) Claytor Beckley, WV, Rev. Thomas (Michelle) Simpson Toano,VA, Eric (Sharlene) Simpson Bristow, VA; father & mother in law: Jose Valdez and Adelina Viegrei; sisters and brothers in Law: Josue, Haydee, Tania, Maleny, Yovany,  Jose Enrique  Valdez, Winston Salem, NC , Levy Valdez, MD; nieces & nephews: Sasha King, Radford, VA ,Chad Chapman Pembroke, VA, Ashleea Hypes, Mollie Oakes, Christiansburg, VA, Valeria Simpson (Arykiah), Princeton, WV, Tariq (Teaire) Simpson Hopewell, VA, Jeremiah, Everett Mills, Christiansburg, VA, Yuliana Ramos, MD, Maritza,Yoana, Abigail, Genesis Ramos, Winston Salem, NC; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

A service in her memory will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday June 21, 2025 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. There will be no public viewing..
