Obituary

Mrs. Audrey Mae Lowery, known for the name given her by her father "Betty Boo", was born July 13, 1933, to the late Henrietta C. Jiles and the late Shellay Jiles Sr. in Winston-Salem, NC. She was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. Mrs. Lowery worked and retired from faithful service to the Winston-Salem Housing Authority. Mrs. Audrey was famous for her cooking and catering. She catered weddings, baby showers, company events and the like. She was a beacon of light in her community and surrounding areas and was known to create book bag and care packages for those who were in need, especially the homeless and underserved of the community. Though homebound, Mother Lowery was a faithful member and supporter of the Historic Mount Glory Missionary Baptist Church, under the Pastorate of Bishop J.R. Stowe and was a leader in the Missions Ministry. She was a great influence to those in whom she came in contact with over her blessed lifetime and never met a stranger. She also loved to write poetry in her spare time and has written many wonderful poetic expressions.

Mother Lowery was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Lowery, her brother, Shellay Jiles Jr.; her daughter, Delphenia Washington; her son, Elliott D. Lowery, and her grandson, David Lowery.

Mother Lowery is survived by her siblings, Minister Alma Roberts, Shellay L (Kim) Jiles, Mary (James) Hairston and Vanessa Jiles; her children, Larion (Thelma) Lowery, Vernard Lowery, Undray (David) Rollinson, Desmond Lowery and Karen (Richard) Peoples; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dedicated caregivers; Tonya Hackett, Patricia Mitchell, and other special caregivers who she was blessed to assist in taking excellent care of her, special friends Robin Mouzon and Rodney Whitehead, as well as other extended family and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 2nd 2023 at the Second Calvary Baptist Church, 1751 New Walkertown Rd. Winston-Salem, NC with family visitation at 12:30pm and Celebration of Life at 1pm.
