Mother Barbara Jean Allen Dodd passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2026. She was born May 16, 1938 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Mack and Mary Allen. Barbara attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and was a proud Atkins High School Camel.
Barbara retired from Winston-Salem State University after years of dedicated service. Throughout her life, she also worked in the textile industry and as a caregiver, always known for her strong work ethic and caring spirit. She was also the "The Avon Lady" for many years.
Barbara had a deep love for music. She sang with the Camp Meeting Choir. She was also a former member of New Vision Prison Ministry. Known for her elegance and grace, Barbara truly loved to "dress to impress". A devoted and faithful member of Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Barbara deeply loved her pastor and faithfully supported his ministry wherever it led.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Albert and Julius Allen, Joseph and Wayne Moore; and her son, Kenneth Allen.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Matthew Dodd; two daughters, Phyllis Allen of Winston-Salem, NC and Olivia Allen of Atlanta, GA; one son, Claude Allen of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Miller (Alice) Allen of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Sarah Davis-Hill of Detroit, Michigan and Vera Moore of Winston-Salem, NC; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 25 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends friends.
Funeral services will be held at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 2651 Buchanan St SW Winston-Salem, NC 27127 on Friday, May 15, 2026. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm with service following at 12:30pm. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Her remains may be viewed Thursday May 14, 2026 from 12 noon -5pm at the funeral home.
