Obituary

Barbara Ann Benjamin was born March 23, 1941, to John Brown and Arerather Morrison in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the last surviving of six siblings. Surrounded by the love of her family, she peacefully departed this earthly realm Sunday, February 8, 2026.

She was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth Public Schools system and earned her diploma from Simon G. Atkins High School in 1959. Her commitment to her family and deep sense of responsibility, carried her through more than 25 years of service at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where she retired in 2013 from the Admissions and Emergency Departments.

Barbara's lifelong connection to Grace Presbyterian Church shined through her service on the Usher Board and her many years of singing in both the church choir and the treasured "Voices of God's Children" choir.

Barbara found great joy in ceramics, sewing, and tending to her garden. Evenings often found her settled in her favorite recliner, watching the shows that made her smile. She enjoyed mystery books, time with her family, and the loving presence of children and pets. Toward the end of her earthly journey, she became a spirited bingo player, sharing laughter and companionship with friends in her assisted‑living community.

Barbara Ann is lovingly remembered by her devoted children Andre Benjamin Sr. (Marilyn), Cedric Benjamin (Lucille), Constance Poe and Petra Benjamin; cherished by seven grandchildren Tamika Wolford, Marla Hauser, Dawanna Benjamin, Andre Benjamin, Jr., Dawna Benjamin, Lakeish Benjamin, and Bryce Benjamin; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; lifelong friend Sandra Hawkins and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Brown and Arerather Morrison; beloved daughter Kimberly Benjamin; siblings Reginald Wright, Elna Beckham, Delois Jackson, Curtis Clemons and Maureen Robinson who welcomed her home.

A celebration of her life will be held at 5:00 pm Saturday February 14, 2026 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:30pm-5:00pm Saturday at the funeral home. Her remains may be viewed Friday February 13, 2026 from 12pm-5pm at the funeral home.
