Barbara Geraldine
Reinhardt
Jun 20, 1935 — Nov 4, 2020
Barbara, born on June 20, 1935 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, was one of six
children born to the late James Carsica and Minnie Bast Reinhardt. As a young
curious learner, she was educated in a one room school of multiple grades with
her siblings and cousins in the Georgetown Community of Lincolnton under the
strict tutelage of her very own Aunt, Mrs. Annie Lorritts. She enjoyed learning to
read, May Day Festivities, and various other school activities with her family. It
was there in that one room classroom of multiple grades that Barbara developed
a love for learning.
Barbara continued early school years in Lincoln County Schools and completed
her secondary education through Central High School in Goldsboro, NC under
the principalship of her very own uncle, Mr. W.M. Reinhardt. She enjoyed high
school days and built genuine, lifelong friendships with many of her high school
classmates.
Being from a long line of educators as far back as her grandfather, Mr. James R.
Reinhardt, she followed suit and pursued an education degree at Winston-Salem
State Teacher's College, graduating in 1958.
She achieved two Master's Degrees -- from University of Connecticut and North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University respectively. She was a
member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Barbara was a master teacher of every component of reading. She tutored many
children of all ages and backgrounds. She was known to have a car full of books
and ready to share literature with anyone needing academic support for their
children.
Barbara proved to be a lifelong learner as she always participated in various
professional development activities and workshops to enrich her art of teaching
reading and struggling readers. She was an avid reader and had a complete
library of biblical and educational resources, journals, dictionaries, and a myriad
of magazine subscriptions especially Reader's Digest. She was always
encouraging others to read while placing a book or magazine in their hands.
For numerous years Barbara's feet were planted in the word of God as she
served as the Head Missionary and Deaconess of Gethsemane A.M.E. Zion
Church of Charlotte, NC. She also served there as a Summer School Director.
She studied the bible diligently in her personal spiritual growth with the Lord.
She attended bible studies at Gethsemane, was a diligent reader of the word and
maintained a personal relationship with the Lord.
Barbara was a hard-working humble servant of North Carolina's school districts
in Gaston County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg County for over thirty-five years.
She completed her education career in 1992.
After her professional career, Barbara spent several years caring for her family
and friends in their hours of need. When her younger sister, Aljuana, became ill,
Barbara spent months caring for her and her family. Several years later, she did
the same for her older brother, Irvin, and his family. Barbara was known to
comfort countless other sick and shut-in among her church family.
After retirement Barbara enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She especially
enjoyed fellowship with many cousins. She also enjoyed backyard cook-outs
with fried fish -her favorite. She enjoyed delicious meals and never turned down
a slice of her niece Kathy's pound cake. Having no children of her own, Barbara
rejoiced in attending graduations and special events of nieces, nephews, and the
children of friends.
She had a special love for her family, friends, and love for Christ. She was very
established in her faith and always stated, "The Lord will keep me." Barbara
entered her eternal rest Wednesday, November 4,2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Reinhardt, as
well as three siblings, Donald Reinhardt, Aljuana R. Shipp, and Irvin Reinhardt.
