Obituary

Mrs. Betty Rutledge Braxton, daughter of Lewis and Martina Banner Rutledge, was born July 10, 1952 in Winston-Salem,NC. She  passed away quietly and peacefully on Sunday morning, March 26, 2023 after and extended period of illness..

Betty attended the local public schools and graduated from Atkins High School, class of 1970.  She later attended and received a degree in Early Childhood from Forsyth Technical Institute.  She worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County  schools as a teacher's aide in special need classes  After retirement, she continued to volunteer as a safety patrol officer.

Betty was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Senior Usher Board, Mass Choir, Young Adult Choir, Sheepfold Ministry and was a Sunday School Teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Beverly Rutledge; two sisters, Cherry Banner and Doris Rutledge; and four brothers, Preston Banner, James Banner, Archie Banner and Charles Rutledge.

Betty leaves to cherish many dear and wonderful memories to her husband, Stanley Braxton;  a grandson, Direz Rutledge; niece, Charlette Pettigrew; nephews, Kenneth and Sherman Rutledge; aunt, Ellaree Johnson;sister-in-law, Tracy Braxton; several other relatives and many friends.

The family will receive friends 11:30am Friday, March 31, 2023 at Shiloh Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 12pm.
