Bishop Christopher Lamar Brinson, a Spirit-filled Gospel preacher, anointed singer/director, producer, and faithful servant in God's Kingdom, transitioned from labor to reward on November 13, 2025. He was born on February 17, 1964, in Niagara Falls, New York, to the late Vera Renford Brinson and Bishop Joseph Brinson Sr.
Called by God at the tender age of sixteen, Bishop Brinson dedicated more than four decades to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1984, he was ordained an Elder, and in 1990 he accepted his first Pastoral assignment in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 2002, Pastor Brinson was consecrated as a Bishop in the Lord's Church, becoming the head of the United Churches for Christ, Inc. With 37+ years of pastoral experience, he continued to faithfully shepherd God's people most recently in the Middle Georgia region. Over 17 years ago, he joined Visionaries in Covenant, Inc., headquartered in Pensacola, Florida. He served on the Executive Board of Bishops and as the Bishop of Protocol.
His preaching reached beyond church walls and impacted countless lives across the United States and abroad. Through his gifting to preach and sing, Bishop Brinson ministered throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Europe.
As founder and senior leader of Calvary Kingdom Fellowship in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Bishop Brinson led with unwavering conviction and compassion. His mandate was to reach the lost "by any means necessary," equipping and empowering individuals to be I.ndividuals M.aking P.ositive A.chievements in C.hallenging T.imes. Under his leadership, numerous outreach initiatives flourished, including a Learning Center, IMPACT Summer Days, a community Coffee House, and other impactful programs that served both church and community.
Internationally recognized as a Malaco recording artist, Bishop Brinson recorded five albums. His hit, "What If God Is Unhappy with Our Praise," spread nationwide and continues to be a beloved gospel anthem. His music has appeared on major commercials and aired on national and international radio. He shared ministry platforms with gospel legends including Pastor Shirley Caesar, the late Reverend Daryl Coley, Keith Pringle, Albertina Walker, John P. Kee, Bishop Dennis Leonard, and Mary Mary. He also made appearances on The Bobby Jones Gospel Show, Testify, and Televisa Television in Mexico City.
Education was another avenue through which Bishop Brinson poured into others. He graduated from Niagara Falls High School in Niagara Falls, New York, later earning an Associate of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services, and a Master's degree in Professional Counseling.
Bishop Brinson lived a life marked by purpose, faith, vision, humor, mentorship, and genuine love for people. He gave his life to service — not only to the church, but to everyone God placed in his path.
Bishop Brinson was blessed to share 41 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Tammy Thompson Brinson, who faithfully stood by his side in life and ministry. He leaves to cherish his memory three loving children: Tamela Hairston (Cory), Christopher Brinson Jr. (Lindsey), and Chrishna Brinson; and four cherished granddaughters: Paris Stovall, Gabriella Hairston, Payton Hairston, and Calee Hairston.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Renford Brinson, who passed when he was just 15. Even in his grief, his musical gift blossomed as he played the organ for her at her homegoing—his first time sharing that gift publicly; this marking moment was only the beginning of his lifelong musical journey, and her influence and love lived on through him always. He was also preceded in death by his father, Bishop Joseph Brinson Sr., his brother Bishop Joseph Brinson Jr., and his father-in-love Reverend David L. Thompson.
He is survived by his step-mother, Annie Brinson, whom he affectionately called "Mom," and his mother-in-love Edna Thompson; and his siblings: Cherisse Stephens (Preston), sister-in-love Bertha Brinson, Cheryl Thompson, Jennifer George, Debbie Wolfe (Clarence), Dion Brinson (Kimberly), Joseph Brinson III (Patrice), Shavette Young (Glennwood), Dianna Hobbs (Kenya), Andre Brinson (Courtney), Shanté Henderson (Rafique), LaQuinte Brinson, Donté Brinson, Alesha Brinson, Lamond Brinson (Harmony), and Shawdeanna Hopkins (Deyonté).
He also leaves behind his uncles: James Renford (Treena), Lamar Renford (Aunt Barbara), Otis Renford Jr. (Beverly), and Sam Renford; a host of cousins and one god-sister, Iris Walker.
He further leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, spiritual sons, spiritual daughters, countless ministry colleagues, and innumerable lives forever impacted by his dedication to God's Kingdom. Additionally he leaves behind a host of godchildren, including one special godson, Antonio Myers, whom he lovingly helped to raise.
