Ms. Blondell Bell Odom was born August 25, 1924 to the late Frank and Pauline General in Marion SC. She later moved to Newark NJ which became her home and she resided there most of her life before coming to Winston-Salem. Ms Odom was a retiree of Sherman Cleaners. Spiritually, she was a lifetime member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Newark NJ where she was the mother of the church, and president of the senior choir. In the community, she was a lifetime member of Lady Electa #31 Order of Eastern Star. Upon arriving in Winston-Salem, she became a member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. Ms. Odom was preceded in death by three children, Mary Francis, Mae Alice, and Naomi Mara; two brothers, one sister, one grandson and one great grandson. She departed this life Friday November 20, 2020 at her home.
Ms. Odom was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She leaves cherished memories to her children, Alberta Knowlin of Marion, SC, Marie (Hoyt) Cooper of Philadelphia, PA, Mary (Herman) Smith of Winston-Salem, NC, James (Dena) Bell, Jr. of Newark, NJ, Cora (Fred) Walters of Milton, PA, Rose(John) Burney of Winston-Salem, NC, Cornell Odon of New York, NY, Bernadette Jean Odom of Dallas, TX, Doris Pearson of Newark, NJ and Monica Nicole Baker of Jacksonville, FL; nineteen grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren; special friends Belinda Spruiell, Jean Pruitt; aides, Rita Walker, Debra Jhake; devoted friends/ caregivers, Marsha Williams, Gerri Williamson, Geneva Dixon, Rosalyn Sherman, Carlene, Melinda Evans, Stephanie Baker, Claudette Matthews, Ann Floyd; Debbie and the Hospice care team, Nancy and Advance Home Care; a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 pm Friday November 27, 2020h at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1pm-1:30pm at the church. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
