Obituary

Bobbie Jean Lewis Torbit was the youngest of six children born to the late Boss McKinley Lewis and Ethel Parker Lewis on October 20, 1940 in Chester County, South Carolina. Bobbie departed this life on March 25, 2025.

She was a 1959 graduate of Finley Senior High School in Chester, SC. She was also a member of Big Calvary Baptist Church in Lando, South Carolina. There she met and married her high school sweetheart the late Sammie L. Torbit Sr on June 26, 1959. To this union five children were born, twins Donald James Torbit and Deborah Jean Torbit which preceded her in death in January of 1967 at 17 months old.

Her surviving children are Cheryl A. Torbit, Sammie L. Torbit Jr. and Cassandra L. Torbit all of Winston-Salem, NC. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, Bobbie united with Emmanuel Baptist Church. It was known as the Little White Church on the Hill. There she served under the leadership of the late Reverend Sir Walter Mack Sr. There she could hear the old hymns coming from old members such as Mrs. Ora Hambright, Deacon Clarence Booker and many others. She served on several auxiliaries including the Missionary Board, Sunday School, Spiritual Choir and Deaconess Board.

Bobbie was an employee of Robert E. Lee hotel for many years as well as Kaba Ilco formerly Bassick-Sack of Winston-Salem, NC. She retired from Kaba Ilco as head prepper of the Diebold Bank Lock in 2005.

Bobbie was also an excellent cook and baker. Her specialties were Fresh Apple Nut Cake, Sour Cream Pound Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate on Chocolate Cake, Pineapple Coconut Layer Cake and her world-renowned Banana Pudding .

She was preceded in death by three brothers James McKinley Lewis, Luther Lewis, Bill Lewis and two sisters Bertha Horton and Mildred Lewis.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law Willie James Torbit Sr. of Winston-Salem, nephew John D. Torbit Sr of Baltimore, MD. Niece Sandra Witherspoon of Atlanta, GA who was her constant companion as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. She is additionally survived
by her one and only GrandPup Prince T'Challa Torbit.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Friday April 4, 2025 at Gardens of Memory Walkertown,  Mrs. Torbit's remains may be viewed Thursday April 3, 2025 from 12-5 pm at the funeral home.
