On Wednesday morning May 11, 2022, Mr. Bobby Gwyn, 87, peacefully departed this life at Trellis Supportive Care.
Mr. Bobby was born on January 29, 1935 to the late Clifford and Bertha Palmer. Bobby attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. He was a graduate of Winston Salem Teachers College (now WSSU) Class of 1961 with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and began his teaching career in Lillington, NC. After three years, he was employed with the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System and retired in 1991, after a successful teaching career at Easton Elementary School.
Bobby was a lover of people and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He used his carpentry skills to help build the space for the Union Baptist Crisis Control Ministry.
A faithful member for over fifty years at Union Baptist Church, he served as a trustee for over twenty years, Chairman of the Finance Committee for five years, Boy Scout Master, Director of the Youth Sunday School Department, church photographer, Chairman –Audio Visual Committee, and was a member of the building committee.
In his spare time Bobby enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and working in his yard. One of the high points of his life was photography, which became his second career. Bobby served as the official photographer for Vision magazine, which is a pictorial directory of senior members of his church published in April, 2002.
Bobby and his beloved wife (who survives him) Deloris Gwyn are parents of two children: a daughter, Dorinda (George) Phillips; a son, Johnny Martin who preceded him in death; two grandchildren, Jamal (Kristen) Phillips and Jihan Phillips; two great grandchildren, Leilani Phillips and Arian Kimbrough; other relatives and friends.
Mr. Bobby touched so many students' lives during his career. They still come by from time to time to check on their mentor. His motto is "Give the world your best, and the best will come back to you."
The family will receive friends 10:30am Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Union Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 11am. Interment Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
