Brenda Jean
Jones
Dec 23, 1943 — Nov 2, 2026
Winston-Salem
Monday
Hooper Funeral Home
12:00 - 5:00 pm (Eastern time)
Brenda Jean Jones, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and devoted woman of God, departed this earthly life on November 2, 2026. Her life was a testament to faith, perseverance, service, and unconditional love.
Brenda was born on December 23, 1943, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to the late Gracie Mae Ingram and Howard Knowles. One of ten siblings, she was raised in Fort Lauderdale and educated through the Broward County Public School System. She graduated from Dillard High School in 1961.
Shortly thereafter, Brenda relocated to New York City, where she met and married Sylvester "Jimmy" Jones, Sr., in 1968. Together, they built a family and shared 53 years of marriage until his passing. Their union was blessed with three children: Sylvester Jr., Belton, and Sylver Lynn.
A woman of determination and ambition, Brenda believed in the importance of education and creating opportunities for her family. In June 1977, she earned her Associate in Applied Science in Nursing from Bronx Community College, becoming a Registered Nurse. She served in various New York City hospitals and clinics before transitioning to the NYC Department of Health, where she worked as a school nurse. After 25 years of dedicated service, she retired, leaving a lasting impact on the students and communities she served.
Above all her accomplishments, Brenda's greatest passion was her relationship with the Lord. A devoted Christian, she became a member of First Glorious Church and later Bible Church of Christ. In 1997, she earned an Associate Degree in Evangelism from Anchor Bible Institute. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about; it was something she lived. Brenda traveled from state to state and country to country spreading the Gospel, feeding those in need, and encouraging everyone she encountered to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. She often reminded those around her to call upon the name of JESUS and find comfort in Psalm 23.
In her later years, Brenda relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she enjoyed making lasting memories with her beloved husband.
Brenda will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, generosity, infectious spirit, and unwavering faith. She was more than a mother; she was a source of encouragement, a listening ear, a prayer warrior, and a guiding light to her family and all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her two sons, Sylvester Jr. and Belton Sr.; her daughter, Sylver Lynn; four grandchildren, Belton Jr., Shavon, Katiya, and Graysen; her sister, Deborah; a host of great-grandchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many loving friends near and far.Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the faith she instilled will continue through generations.
Brenda fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith. Her work here is done, but her legacy will live on forever.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
