Obituary

Carl Eric Austin Sr. was born in New York, NY on January 27, 1956. He was the son of the late Robert George Austin & Jean Delores Haskins Austin. He transitioned from this life, peacefully, at his Winston-Salem, NC home on November 19, 2020.

Carl was educated in the NYC public school system and retired from Bronx Shepherds Restoration Corporation NY, in 1998. He left his beloved 163rd St. neighborhood in the Bronx and headed to NC to join his siblings. To know Carl was to know he loved to work with his hands and could fix anything! He expressed this passion continuing his career at Aster Park Apartments, as the charismatic maintenance man, and as a proud volunteer with Habit for Humanity during the Boston-Thurmond Community projects. His final joys were working from home on whatever he could get those hands on, flower gardening and bird watching from his front porch. Least we not forget heckling his peers. If he didn't pick at you he didn't like you.

Carl was a loving and devoted brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. Of note, those who will cherish his memory are: siblings Robert Austin of the Bronx, NY, Patricia Foy (Darrell) of Winston-Salem, NC, Larry Austin (Renee) of Jacksonville, FL, Anthony Austin, Janine Torres and Kim Austin of Winston-Salem, NC; his son Carl Austin Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC, daughters Jenell Douglas of Marietta, GA, Ruby Brooks of Fort Worth, TX and Tyressa Hall (Damien) of Decatur, GA; their mother Delores Brooks of NY, NY; grandchildren Cardel, Adyson, Donta, Shavonna, Sharelle, Shakoya, Sanaa, Xavier Damion Jr, & Tyresse; two great-grandchildren Dejon & Caleon, and a tribe of nieces, nephews and cousins who all loved him dearly.

The family will be hosting a private memorial ceremony for Carl. We will be honoring his wishes and laying him to rest with his parents at a later date. Additional memorial and opportunity for condolences will be made available online.

Goodbyes are not forever,

goodbyes are not the end,

they simply mean we'll miss him

until we all meet again.

May you rest in peace.

Love always, your family.
