Deacon Cary L. McMillan was born on June 30, 1927, to the late Simon and Livvie McMillan in Cope, South Carolina, Bamberg County. On Friday, September 23, 2022, he departed this world at the age of 95.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia McMillan, and 5 children: Carlotta Clark, Sonia McMillan, Cary McMillan Jr. (Sandra), James McMillan (Pauline), and Ann Plowden (Edward). He was a proud grandfather to 9 grandchildren: Angela Clark, Donald Clark, Stephanie McMillan, Bryant McMillan, Tumeka Johnson, Jene Plowden, Keena McMillan, Shawn McMillan (Paris), and Maurice McMillan (Lori). In addition, he has 12 Great-Grandchildren: Jarontae Walker, Alana Plowden, Amani McMillan, Donovan Clark, Jalden McMillan, D' Andre McMillan, Niah Brooks, Nathan Brooks, Elijah Wilson, Jaylan Wilson, Nakia McMillan, and Maya McMillan.
He retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 36 and a half years of service. He was a lifelong member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, having served for almost 60 years. Throughout his lifetime, he participated in several organizations, primarily as Chairman of the Deacon board for nearly 42 years and as president of the Forsyth County Deacons Union for 12 years. His passion for singing started at an early age, he was the lead singer and guitarist for his group, "The King of Kings" and sang on several choirs. The last song he wrote was "On my way to Heaven, Climbing up the Hill." (Dated January 9 th , 2008.)
He was truly an anointed man called by God who had a passion for doing the Lord's work. Everyone who knew him, including his family, friends, and fellow church members, will miss him dearly. " Please don't shed a tear, because he made it!" He's earned his crown, so look for the brightest star and there he will be."
Also, a special thanks to his granddaughter Angela Clark who was very devoted to him to the end.
