up in Washington D.C and was greatly inf l uenced by his maternal grandparents John a n d
Melissa Saunders . He attended the city public schools and graduated from Paul Lawrence
Dunb a r Hi g h Sc h oo l . H e j oin e d th e US Army w h e r e h e se r v e d as a p a r a tr oope r du r in g th e
Korean Conflict . H e was a member of the elite Triple Nickles, America's first a l l-African
American paratroop unit .

where he studied Computer Science. He was employed as a computer operator with t he
Naval Ships Research and Development Center . He was also employed as a compute r
p rogrammer with t he Armed F orces I ns tit u t e of P atho l ogy. He ret i red from the I nter n a l
Revenue Service as a systems ana l yst .

Mr. Ox l ey was a member o f Fi rst Bap ti st C hur c h o f Hi gh l and Avenue. He was a devo t e d
vo l unteer with the L ouise Sm i th Summer Adventure Camp.

N anetta Uwechue and G r e t a ( I saac) Merchan t; lif elong friends Paul Co l bert , J ean M cG uir e ,
Raymond (Mae) Leonard , many other extended relatives and fr i ends.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Friday October 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church. 700 N. Highland Avenue Winston-Salem NC 27101. The family will receive friends from 11 am-12 noon at the church Friday.
