Obituary

Reverend Christopher Raynard Astrop, 71, departed this life Friday May 2, 2025 at Trellis Supportive Care Center following a period of illness. He was born on September 18, 1953 to Henry and Christine Astrop.

He attended Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools. He was a graduate of Shaw University with degrees in Business Administration and Accounting.  He also earned a Religion and Philosophy degree from Shaw School of Divinity.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was ordained a minster by the Rowan Association. He was a charter United Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church member where he held leadership roles and served under the honorable late Dr. J. Ray Butler.

Some of his roles included Associate Pastor and Pastor's Assistant, Sunday School Superintendent, and Chairman of  Deacons and Trustee Ministries. He served as a delegate to the Association and church conventions, attending special church events and services. Before starting his company, Astrop's Home Repair Services, he worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memories his children three daughters, Paris Smith, Talea (Kalvin) Cowan and Tara Baker of Winston-Salem; one son, Travis Harris; six sisters, Brenda (Joseph) McLaurin-Jennings, Lavetta (James) Williams, Chiquita Shields, Alice (Bobby) Clark, Lydia (Sherman) Marshall, Teresa (Gary) Foster all of Winston Salem; four brothers, Henry, Jeffrey, Terry and Kelvin (Victoria) Astrop all of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two bonus sisters, Doris Christian and Carolyn Shell; one uncle Homer Peak; three aunts, Patricia Clyburn, Bishop Alicia Peak Patterson and Elizabeth Peak; a host of other family members and friends, and last but not least to love of life Sheila Smith.

A Service in his memory will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday May 10, 2025 at Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 12:30pm. Reverend Lavetta Williams will officiate and Pastor Clara Cremedy of Honor Church Ministries will be the Eulogist.
