With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Clara Mae Murray, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on September 23, 2026, surrounded by family and love.
Clara was born on August 3, 1931 in Shuqualak Mississippi toRebecca and Grady Murray. From the very beginning, Clararadiated kindness, strength, and grace. She carried thosequalities with her througout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she met. She spent her career as a dedicated nurse for 34 years, serving her community. Her compassion knew no bounds. She loved fishing, playing cards, traveling, attending church, talking smack, and family. Her greatest joy came from being with her family, where her presence was the heart of every gathering.
Clara was preceded in death by 3 children: Vivian, Norman, and Derrick; and 8 siblings: Levan, Callie, Grady Jr., Spurgeon, James Earl, Ruby Lee, and Dorothy.
Clara is survived by 3 children: Carl (Ann), Aurora (Brady), and Yolanda (Huey); 3 siblings: Marjorie, Johnny Mae (Cassius), and Edwin (Shirlene); 22 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a special grandson Lamon (Mookie), friends, and loved ones.
Clara’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
Her extraordinary journey will be celebrated with a funeral service on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Carver Road Church of Christ, 4399 Carver School Road, Winston-Salem, NC. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share in the remembrance of her life. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Her memory may also be honored on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
