Obituary

Clarence Johnson, Sr., aka, "Jack", was born Aug. 22, 1941 to the late Matthew and Josephine Foster Johnson in Winston-Salem, NC.

He was a graduate of Atkins High School and continued his education by attending Cornell University. Mr. Johnson was a retiree of RJR Tobacco Company, owned the first Black professional hand carwash in Winston Salem (J&J Professional Car Wash), and founded Golden Eagle Taxi Cab Service.

He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church for many years before attending St. Peters World Outreach.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Matthew Johnson, Jr., James Johnson, Bernard Johnson, and Jacqueline Johnson; his wife and daughter, Mamie Uzzell Johnson and Melinda Hope Johnson. Mr. Johnson departed this earthly life March 1, 2024.

Left to cherish loving memories is a daughter, Michelle Johnson; his son, Clarence (Elizabeth) Johnson, Jr.; grandchildren, Precious (Javon) Gethers, Clarissa Johnson, and Clarence David Johnson; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, William Johnson, Vincent Johnson, and Brenda Johnson Middleton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family visitation will be held 11:30am Thursday, March 7, 2024 in Hooper Funeral Home chapel with the funeral service following at 12 Noon.
