Obituary

Mr. Clark Gable Hanner, Sr. was born April 3, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Palmer Hanner Russell and David Miller. He was a lifelong resident of the city and attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth county schools..

Mr. Hanner was a devoted Gold Star member of First Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee board, Finance committee and the Holland Homes Board. He served his country in the United States Army.

In the community his fraternal endeavors included ;  Red Rock Lodge # 809 PHA where he was a Past Master, Sethos Temple#170 where he was a past potentate and King Solomon's Consistory#64 where he was Past Commander in Chief. He was also a 33 rd degree mason.

Mr. Hanner was preceded in death by his son, Clark G. Hanner, Jr, mother, Palmer Hanner Russell, brother, James Russell, sister, Dianne R. Rucker: aunts, Carrie H. Hyman and Lucille H. Carter.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn L. Hanner; a son, Michael Kelly; sister, Carol Russell; his uncle, who was like his father, Arthur Hanner; 2 brothers-in-law whom he raised as his own sons, Ronald and Donald Leak; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Public viewing will be held Thursday from 12pm-6pm. Funeral services will be private. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the scholarship fund at First Baptist Church, 700 Highland Avenue Winston-Salem, NC 27101, in memory of Clark G. Hanner, Sr., Attn: Olita Alexander, office manager.
