Obituary

Cynthia Denise Moten, affectionately known as "Nanna" by her beloved grandchildren was born on October 11, 1962, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Winifred and the late John Louis Moten. She peacefully departed her life on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.

Cynthia was a proud graduate of Parkland Senior High School. She continued her education at Winston-Salem State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. With a heart for education and service, Cynthia dedicated many years to
the Guilford County School System. She served as an Exceptional Children (EC) educator at Southwest Guilford Middle School, where she was respected for her compassion, dedication, and commitment to her students. A devout member of Carver Road Church of Christ, Cynthia's faith and warmth touched all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Cedric Anthony, Sr.; her father, John Louis Moten; and her sister, Revallie Freeman (Calvin).

She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother, Winifred Moten of Winston-Salem, NC; her children, Dr. Marshall Cedric Anthony Jr. of Washington, DC, Terry Williams Jr. & Cynterria Williams of Greensboro, NC, Tisha Anthony, and Shante Anthony of Lewisville, NC; her sisters, Dr. Carmen Moten-McKen of Silver Spring, MD, Paulette Moten, Tonjua Hall (Rodney) of Winston-Salem, Monica Brown (Robert), and Leslie Brown (Lee) of Midlothian, Virginia, and Ava Cornelius of Greensboro, North Carolina; her brother-in-law, Carlton Cornelius of Cleveland, North Carolina; her cherished aunt, Beaulah Mae Brown; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Cynthia's legacy of love, strength, and service will live on in all who were fortunate to know her.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday May 10, 2025 at the Carver Road Church of Christ . The family will receive friends from 10:30 am-11:00 am at the church.  Services will be livestreamed at 11:00 am and may be viewed at the Carver Road Church of Christ YouTube or Facebook page.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to her former spouse, Terry Williams for his devoted care and support throughout her illness. Special appreciation is also extended to Dr. Robert Richmond, Principal of Southwest Guilford Middle School; Ms. Patricia Carson, a dedicated educator and friend; and the Carver Road Church of Christ family for their love and encouragement.  Sincere gratitude is given to Hooper Funeral Home.
