Miss Danetta Juanita Fitts, daughter of the late Frank and Madgie Howard Fitts, departed this earthly world to enter into eternal peace on April 27, 2022.

She was born on July 10, 1937, in Warren County, North Carolina. She received her early education from the public schools in Warren County, where she was class valedictorian of the Class of 1955.

Danetta was a 1959 graduate of North Carolina Central University. She was a member of the Winston-Salem Chapter of the NCCU Alumni Association. She was inducted into the Society of Golden Eagles in 2009 for fifty years of undiminished loyalty as a distinguished alumna. Miss Fitts was also a member and a past Basileus of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Rho Zeta Chapter. She was presented with a Winston-Salem Forsyth County Pan-Hellenic Community Service Award in 2013.

Miss Fitts was employed at Winston-Salem State University. She retired from the City of Winston-Salem Work Force Development Program in the Human Services Department with over 30 years of service.

She was a dedicated member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and participated with the Chancel Choir and The Gwendolyn M. Poindexter Memorial Handbell Choir.

She enjoyed social and cultural gatherings such as Happy Bunch and Swans Pinochle Clubs, and volunteering to help with the Black Theatre Festival. Miss Fitts enjoyed international travel with her sisters and friends to such places as Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

She loved trying new recipes, having grown quite a large cookbook collection and was also an avid reader. She cherished family and loved going to the country for family reunions. She was fun-loving and loved to laugh.

Danetta Juanita Fitts was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Madgie Fitts; brother, Nathan Fitts; sisters, Marie Kearney, Leola Sadler, Lillian Bailey; brother-in law, Melton Sadler Jr.; and nephews Melton Sadler III and Clint Fitts.

Danetta, affectionately called "Dan", was a devoted aunt, cousin, sister and friend.  Celebrating her life and memories are her nieces, Shirley Sadler of Winston-Salem; Milvia Sadler (Angela) of Greensboro, NC, Dinette Bailey of Richmond, VA; Sharon Bailey of Hampton, VA; nephews, Larry Fitts (Cynthia) of Fredericksburg, VA; Gregory Gilchrist (Andrea) of Henderson, NC; Fernando Bailey (Rhonda) of Hampton; Marquez Bailey of Richmond; Walter Bailey (Elizabeth) of Durham, NC; and Alvin Bailey of Hampton; favorite "great nephew" Cody Bailey; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday May 7, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-1:00pm. The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc, Rho Zeta Chapter, memorial service will preceded at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Her remains may be viewed Friday May 6, 2022 from 1pm-6pm at the funeral home.
