Obituary

David James Pearson, son of the late Willie and Lucy Pearson, was born on Sunday, December 9, 1962 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was the youngest of the 11 children! On Sunday, March 2, 2025, he made his transition into eternal life at the Trellis Support Care Center-Winston-Salem surrounded by family members.

He attended the Forsyth County school system which included Carver and East Forsyth as well as Winston-Salem State University. He was a top athlete in sports beginning from his childhood in the peewee league all the way through adulthood, leading in such sports as football, basketball and track. Known for his witty personality and willingness to help anyone in need, he was most proud of being known as Coach Dave, Coach P or Coach Pearson by the many athletes, students, or others that he mentored. To know David was to love him because he was the life of the party and one of the biggest Steelers fan!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hashim (Jim Pearson) Razzak.

He is survived by his children; Keith Carter and Kristopher Pearson, and their mother, Kim Carter; siblings, Rakib-aka, John (Fatima) Razzak, Munirah-(aka, Ruby) Razzak, Akil-aka, Marvin (Nathifa) Razzak, Asim-(aka, Willie) Razzak, Basir-aka, Lorenzo (JoAnn) Razzak, Julius Pearson, Maisah-aka, Doretha (Wali) Rainer, Mary (Kenneth) Greene, Lillie (William) Holmes; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.

Special thanks to his nieces, Walidah Crawford and Rashidah Razzak, for the special support they gave during his illness.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 am Monday March 10, 2025 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1212 North Dunleith Ave. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-11:30 am Monday at the church.
