Deanna Sherin Kelley Walker age 50 passed away on August 21, 2024 after a courageous battle with grade 4 brain cancer. She departed peacefully at her home, in Winston-Salem North Carolina, in the presence of the ones she loved.
Deanna was born to Barbara D. Kelley and the late Horace J. Scott on April 6, 1974 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In Deanna's youth she was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, NAACP, and Girl Scouts. Deanna graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem. During her attendance at Reynolds High, she participated in the Ebony Society Service Club, Pep Board Club and Vocational Honor Society.
Upon graduation, Deanna attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland to study Early Childhood Education. While at Morgan State University, Deanna met her soulmate and husband of 25 years, Mr. Gregory Walker. Deanna dedicated he life to her family, supporting her husband during his time in the military, and raising her children.
Deanna had a love of volunteer work, participating in Girls Scouts as a Troop Leader, Parent Teachers Association, and Military Family Readiness Programs. Deanna also earned her Associates Degree in Human Resources from Guilford Technical Community College. Throughout her life, Deanna embodied kindness and compassion. Her love, loyalty and joyful energy was abundant, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of friends and family alike. Deanna's legacy of love will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in her journey.
Deanna is survived by her loving family, including her Mother Barbara, husband Gregory and three children, Kaaria, Gabbidon, and Brooklyn, her siblings Michelle, Pia, Dionne, Keyona, Isiahm, Steve, Terrence, and Jonathan and several nephews and nieces. Deanna's will be sorely missed by her extended family of Jacksons, Pates, Backmons, and Stokes but her love for them will endure to eternity. Deanna's memory will live on in the hearts of those she encountered, and her strength will continue to inspire all who loved her. May Deanna rest in eternal peace, free from pain, and be remembered for the love and light she brought into the lives of others.
Family visitation will be held 1pm Saturday, Aug. 31st in Hooper Funeral Home chapel with the funeral service following at 2pm. Interment will be held 9am Monday, Sept. 2, 2024 in Salisbury National Cemetery.
