Debra Ann Simmons was born in Reidsville, NC to the late Mary Simmons Mitchell on August 1, 1960. She departed this life at Trellis Hospice Care surrounded by family and friends on Monday, April 18, 2022.

For a short while she attended a special needs school in Rockingham County. Debra was a member of Miracle Temple Church in Winston-Salem, NC and was an assistant to the Youth Sunday School teacher at Spirit Filled Holiness Church in Danville, VA. Debra loved to color and was a lover of jewelry and pocketbooks.

She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Mitchell along with her brothers, Edward "Bro" Morehead, Jr., Alphonse "Bo" Morehead and stepfather, William Mitchell.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Phyllis (Timothy) Shields; nieces, Monique Shields, Tiffany Donnell, Talika Donnell and Marissa Donnell; and one nephew Timothy (Amber) Shields, Jr.; a great nephew, Mekhi Shields and two great nieces, Kendall and Khera Shields; and a special aunt and caretaker Roxie Simmons -along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12:30 pm Friday April 22, 2022 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00pm-12:30pm at the funeral home. Her remains may be viewed Thursday April 21, 2022 from 12pm-6pm at the funeral home.
