Dennis Bernard
Speaks Sr.
Nov 2, 1957 — Aug 6, 2025
Mr. Dennis Speaks, Sr., affectionately remembered for his firm demeanor and compassionate spirit, entered into eternal rest on August 6, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on November 2, 1957, in Yadkinville, North Carolina, Dennis was the beloved son of the late Reuben and Mae Speaks.
Raised in Yadkinville, Dennis was educated in the Yadkinville School District, where he formed the foundation for a life marked by resilience, loyalty, and purpose. Known for his commanding presence, Dennis had a gift for cultivating lasting friendships wherever he went. His straightforward nature was balanced by a deep tenderness, especially when it came to children and the elderly, whom he held in the highest regard.
Dennis was a pillar in the community. Whether it was buying groceries for a family in need or teaching a young person the proper way to cut grass, Dennis was a true community man—always ready to lend a helping hand. He would do anything for anyone, especially his family, who were the center of his world.
Dennis was also a true jokester. He had a natural gift for humor and was always saying something to make you laugh or put a smile on your face. His warmth and wit left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to cross his path.
Above all, Dennis was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Alison. Their unwavering bond stood as a testament to true partnership and love. His heart found its greatest joy and peace in their life together.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Mae Speaks; four brothers, Larry Speaks, Lewis Speaks, Stanley Speaks, and Gary Speaks; and son, Kinard Cheeks.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Alison Speaks of the home; his children, Marcus Hauser, Tiffany Hauser, Dennis (Taketra) Speaks Jr., JoAnne Speaks, Jovon Speaks, Johnathan Speaks, and Michael (Evon) Lewis; his siblings, Mary Revels, Beverly (Chris) Posey, and Michael (Robin) Speaks; along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and devoted friends.
Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy of strength, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Monday August 11, 2025 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:30am-12:00 pm on Monday. His remains may be viewed Sunday August 10, 2025 from 12pm-5pm at the funeral home.
