Woods
Jan 20, 1942 — May 16, 2026
Mr. Edward Eddins Woods was born on January 20, 1942, in Demopolis, Alabama to Fannie Scott Woods and Sam Woods, Sr. He departed this life on Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the product of strong, loving, and God-fearing parents. He was raised in the Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama, where he was a Junior Deacon.
He was educated in the Marengo County School System in Alabama, where he was an outstanding football and track athlete at U. S. Jones High School. Mr. Woods was an avid Alabama and Washington Commanders fan.
Shortly after graduation from high school, Mr. Woods joined the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he remained in Washington, DC where he met the love of his life, Betty Morgan Woods. They were married on May 25, 1963.
He loved God, people, and antique cars. Mr. Woods was a faithful disciple of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Ministry, the Surveillance Ministry, the Transportation Ministry, and was always willing to assist in any way he could. As a hard-working family man, he always took pride in performing his duties with excellence. He held a variety of jobs; Red Ball Moving Company (where his oldest brother, Sam, mentored him and taught him the art of packing and moving), Hecht
Company, Safeway Grocery, Home Beneficial (Insurance Agent), Trailways and Greyhound Bus Lines. He has certificates and awards for many accomplishments presented to him because of his outstanding work ethic. His last place of employment was City Transfer (Atlas), where he retired in October 2007.
Mr. Woods enjoyed hanging out at Food Lion under the tree with the men in their cars and at Bojangles. Prior to the decline in his health, he loved going to the Winston Lake YMCA to "talk trash." Mr. Woods never met a stranger and loved talking to and meeting people. Without a doubt, he was a leader in every area of his life and would help anyone he could. When Mr. Woods stepped out, he was red carpet ready, no matter the occasion.
Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Clara W. Robinson, and 4 brothers, Sam Woods, Jr., James Woods, John Woods, and Threatt Woods.
