Mother Elizabeth Plowden Jones was born November 23 , 1928 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Benjamin and Co r a Plowden .
She departed life peacefully on September 23 , 2022 at her home . She was preceded in death by her husband , Clifton E . Jones Sr.,
two sisters , Ruth Petree, Juanita Golden, and one brother Bennie Plowden .
Mother Jones was truly a God fearing woman who put Jesus Christ first in her life . She was a member of Mercy Seat Holy Church for 47 plus years . Her faithful services in the church included Ministry Assistant to the Pastor , Distr i ct Superintendent of the Holiness Church Of God , Local Superintendent of the Sunday School Department of Mercy Seat Holy Church , Trustee , President of the Educat i on ; Departmen t of Mercy Seat Holy Church, Communion committee , President of the Senior Choir , Chairperson of many Church Committees , Sunday School delegate at Kimberly Park Hol i ness Church , Financial Secretary of the Pastor's Aide , Treasurer of the Mercy Seat Holy Church Missionary , and a supporter of other church related activities.
Education was very important to her and she spent her life teaching others in school and the church. A graduate of Teacher ' s College Winston-Salem State University, Mother Jones emphasized education as a means to a better life . She was a professional educator, having taught for thirty plus years , i n the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System . One of her favorite sayings was " It ' s Nice to be N i ce ."
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter , Karen J (Juan , deceased) Johnson of the city , fou r sons , Clifton E . Jones Jr . of the city , Everette A . (Lisa) Jones of St . Petersburg , FL , Kenneth R . (Sherr i) Jones of Ft Washington , MD , and Roland L . (Debra) Jones of Landover, MD . Sisters , Geraldine P . Newe ll of Largo , MD and Barbara Jean Nowlin of the city, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren , 4 great-g r eat-grandchildren , and a host of other relatives and friends .
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday October 8, 2022 at Mercy Seat Holy Church. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church.
