Obituary

Emma Roberta Mackins Cohn, afectionately known as "Roberta" was the 2nd child born to Robert A. and Margaret Green Mackins on  October 25, 1925.  On Monday March 23, 2026 she departed this life to be with Lord.

Roberta attended Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. For many years she was a devoted member of  Mt. Pleasant Missionary  Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. She lived her life as a God fearing woman. She held various employments in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She then married John B. Cohn. They relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where they lived  for many years. When and wherever you saw Roberta, she was  surely looking good. Her fashions and appearance were exceptionally  important to her.

In Maryland, Roberta worked for U.S. Fidelity and Guaranty, as a clerical supervisor until she  retired in 1991.  Shortly after her retirement, she and her husband relocated back to Winston-Salem. During her husband's illness, she was a devoted wife and caregiver.  After her husband's  death she continued to live a full enjoyable life with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by husband, John B. Cohn, her daughter Lynda Mackins Johnson; five sisters, Iola Mackins, Anna Mackins, Edna Knight, Merita Staten, and Frances Steele, two brothers, Robert A. Mackins Jr. and LouIs F. Mackins, Sr.

Roberta leaves to share her precious memories her two sons, Billy Bernard Mackins Sr.(Doris) and Kenneth Lee Mackins of Towson, Maryland; two sisters Remona Banner and Joan Little both of  Winston-Salem, North Carolina; one sister-in-law Gloria Mackins;  five grandchildren, Billy Bernard Mackins  Jr.(Elon) of California, Allen Mackins(McKenzie) of California, Kenneth Mackins(Dominique) of California, Stephanie Mackins of California, Marie Peterson of Maryland; eleven great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; a goddaughter, Barbara Ann Steele; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Thursday April 2, 2026 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-11:30 am Thursday at the funeral home. Her remains may be viewed Wednesday April 1, 2026 from 12pm-5pm at the funeral home.
