Emmanuel Lee Hooper, aka "John", was born August 16, 1967 to the late Herman and Nancy Hooper. He attended the WSFC public schools (1985 graduate of Reynolds High School) and was of the Baptist faith.

Emmanuel was a cook by trade as cooking was his passion and among his many gifts, he possessed a gift for laughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Regina Hooper. Emmanuel departed this life November 15, 2023 at his home.

Survivors include his son, Emmanuel Shelton; a granddaughter, Emani Shelton; siblings, Florence France, Faye Hooper, David and Herman Hooper; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends including his childhood friend, Tonja Brooks; and his beloved companion, Midnight. Emmanuel will certainly be missed by the entire Winston Salem community!
