Mr. Eugene Mickens Jr., aka "POP" was born August 11, 1962 in Harlem, NY to Eugene and Fannie Mickens, Sr. He was a 1980 graduate of West Forsyth High School and was employed by Industries for the Blind Solutions. "Pop" was a lover of all types of music especially P Funk & George Clinton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Laurie Mickens and brother, Michael Mickens. Mr. Mickens departed this life Friday June 3, 2022 at his residence.
He is survived by his parents, Eugene Sr. and Fannie H. Mickens; two daughters, Latina Hickman of Charlotte, NC and Ebony Mickens of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandchildren, Kedric Hickman, Rajon Coleman, Ralayah Coleman and Razir Coleman; three sisters, Michelle (Charles) Odom, Renee Mickens and Sharon Mickens all of Winston-Salem, NC; two aunts, Mary (George) Hatfield of Rocky Mount, NC and Annette(Benjamin) Cupid of Brentwood, NY; three uncles, Eddie(Dee) Mickens of Norfolk, VA, Tyrone(Diane) Mickens of Bronx, NY, Kenneth(Debra) Mickens of High Point, NC; a devoted cousin, Catherine Brown; a devoted friend, Marcus Nivens; a special friend Sylvester Gist; and a host of nieces, nephews, including a devoted nephew Anthony Mickens, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm Saturday June 11, 2022 in the chapel in Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 12 pm. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
