Mr. Givens Allen Shelf was born May 25, 1925 to the late Jim and Julia Allen Shelf in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth county schools.

Mr. Shelf served his country during World War II in the United States Army.  He was a retiree of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company with over 34 years of service.

Spiritually he was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mamie F. Shelf; siblings, James "Buster", Coy, Maggie, Elnora and Gwen.

He was known in the community of  Bellview as the "Mayor" and loved to hang with the fellows at the corner store. Mr. Shelf was a handyman as well as a great dad. He will be sorely missed

He departed this life Wednesday February 9, 2022 at his residence.

Surviving are his devoted daughter and son-in-law who were his caregivers, Gilda (Allen) Shelf Holmes; a host of devoted nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends

A service of memory will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday February 17, 2022 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:30-12:00 pm Thursday. Online condolences may be sent to www.hooperfuneralhome.net.
