Gloria Patricia Gilliam, aka "Pat", born on August 6, 1948, to the late James J. and Margaret Ann Gilliam, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 14, 2026.

A distinguished graduate of Atkins High School, Gloria pursued her passion for nursing at Forsyth Technical Community College, graduating with honors as an Associate in Nursing. Her dedication to her calling led her to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, later advancing as a Registered Nurse. Her career blossomed as the Assistant Head Nurse on the 5th South Rehab Unit, where her gentle touch and compassionate heart were renowned. Deeply committed to her patients, particularly those with tracheotomies and the elderly, she devoted 37 years to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, leaving a legacy of kindness and care.She enjoyed helping others, teaching, showing others how to care for themselves. "Once a nurse, always a nurse."  Her mother once asked her how she could be a nurse when she didn’t talk much. God had already chosen her life’s work and purpose for being here.  Even as she explored real estate, nursing remained her true vocation—a testament to the divine purpose she embraced.

Her spiritual journey began at First Calvary Baptist Church, continued at First Thessalonian Baptist Church, and flourished under her brother, Rev. James A. Gilliam, at Antioch Christian Church.

Gloria joins her parents and niece, April Gilliam, in eternal peace. She leaves behind her cherished son, Curtis (Sherri) Gilliam, and grandsons Christian and Devin Gilliam, along with her beloved great-granddaughter, A’vaya Gilliam, all from Winston-Salem. She is also survived by her brother Rev. James A. (Deloris) Gilliam, along with nieces and nephews Anthony Dawkins, Lyn Thompson, Rev. Adrian Gilliam, Elizabeth Gilliam, and Anna Hopkins. A multitude of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends also mourn her passing.

A memorial service honoring her memory will be held at 12:30pm on Saturday July 25, 2026 at the Hooper Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to gather from 12:00 to 12:30pm before the service to share cherished memories and provide comfort to one another. There will be no public viewing.

Pat's vibrant spiritand the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her life was a tapestry of service and devotion, a legacy that endures in the hearts she touched.
