Gregory Lavoris
Gaither
Feb 15, 1963 — Mar 24, 2025
With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Gregory L. Gaither, affectionately known as "Snake Gravy," who departed this life on March 24, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on February 15, 1963, Gregory was the cherished only child of the late Lucille Gaither. However, he was never alone, as he was blessed to grow up on sweet 16th Street, surrounded by the love and laughter of his older cousins: Bobby, James Jr., Tony, Charles, Eugene, and Haywood. His cousin turned sister, Delores "Suga" Brown Gilliam, was a constant source of support and joy in his life.
Gregory's life was a beautiful blend of hard work, creativity, and a deep love for making people laugh, sometimes unintentionally. He graduated from Reynolds High School and pursued further education at Forsyth Tech Community College, where he studied plumbing. His career took him to the Department of Transportation for the city of Winston-Salem, and he also showcased his culinary skills as a line cook at K&W. But perhaps his greatest passion was his lawn care, where he turned manicuring grass into an art form.
In his younger years, Greg dabbled in sports, playing baseball and football at Dalton Middle School, proving that he could excel both on the field and off. He leaves to cherish his memory a his son, Jarian (Lekiesha) Wiley, and three grandsons: Jaylen, Jarius, and Jamire Wiley, as well as a great-grandson, Chozen Wiley. He is also preceded in death by his son, Terrance Clark.
Gregory's legacy lives on through his sister, Delores aka "Suga" and brother-in-law, Rev. James A. Gilliam, along with devoted cousins Adrian "AJ" and April Gilliam. He had many "homeboys," as he would say, including Ronald Thompson (Sarge), who provided care and companionship during challenging times.
As we gather to celebrate Gregory's life, we find comfort in the words of Nehemiah 8:10: "Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." Though we will miss his infectious laughter and warm spirit, we take solace in knowing that he has found peace in the arms of Christ Jesus, who welcomed him home.
A service of memory will be held 1pm, Friday, April 4, 2025 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home with family visitation preceding at 12:30pm.
