Gregory C. McRae "Shakey" was born Nov 6, 1958, to the late James E. McRae Jr. and the late Mae F. (McFarlin) McRae in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Greg attended Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools, thereafter, he joined the U.S. Army. After his military service and honorable discharge, Greg moved to California where he attended the College of San Mateo. After several years and returning to NC, he met Quenna Robinson. Greg and Quenna later married January 1,2006. They later relocated to Alabama and remained until retiring. Greg and Quenna moved to her hometown of Sumter, South Carolina in July 2024.

Greg was a man full of love, especially for his family. He had showed a special kind of uncle's love for all his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Which quite often he was their babysitter. Greg loved to have fun with everyone and being the jokester amongst family, friends, coworkers and anyone else he met. He loved fishing trips with his brother, nephews and cousins. He was also a diehard Carolina Panthers football fan. Greg was particularly fond of his cousins Larry Dixon, David Richmond and Dennis Lawrence, as they were of him.

Greg was preceded in death by both parents, James E. McRae Jr.  and Mae F. (McFarlin) McRae, as well as two brothers, Vincent McRae Sr. and Glenn McRae. Greg leaves to cherish precious memories to his devoted and loving wife of 19 years, Quenna (Robinson) McRae; his loving and precious daughter Karesha McRae; one grandson Ken'Dale Spikes, both of Manteca, CA; one brother, Wylie McRae of Lillington, NC and six sisters Dorothy Pettus of Walkertown, NC, Lois Burks of Winston Salem NC, Phyllis McRae of Walkertown, NC, Cheryl Inzar of Winston Salem NC, Valeria McRae of Union City GA and Lynetta McRae of Winston Salem, NC; his mother in law, Betty Robinson of Sumter, SC; two brother in laws, Ricardo Robinson (Rebecca) of Sumter, SC and Stacy Robinson (Meegan) of Lafayette, LA; three sister in laws, Stefan Robinson of Charlotte, NC, Savritria Spann(Jimmy) of Sumter, SC and Eddra Thornton of Columbia, SC; one uncle, Preston Mcfarlin (Priscilla) and two aunts, Floretta Gregory and Lillian Patterson, all of Winston Salem, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Service of Memory will be held at 12 noon Saturday March 1, 2025 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am- 11:30 am with services beginning at 11:30 am.
