Obituary

Ms. Hattie Mae Sumpter Mickens went home to be with our Lord on the 12 th day of November 2019. She was born October 24, 1933 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Johnnie and Maszrine Alston Sumpter.

Ms. Mickens was a  retiree of the Union Baptist Daycare as a daycare teacher. Spiritually, she was a member of White Rock Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and  member of the JS Mickens choir. In the community, she was the chaplain of the Golden Crown Senior Citizens Club of 14 th Street.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hozzy Mickens, sister Pearl Dennis, stepson, Johnnie Mickens and stepdaughter, Ida Brown.

She leaves those to cherish loving memories of her two sons, Felix Sumpter  and her caregivers, Kenneth(Deborah) Mickens; four  stepchildren, Eugene(Fannie Mae) Mickens, Annette(Benjamin) Cupid, Carl "Eddie" Mickens, and Mary Hatfield;  three brothers, Johnnie Sumpter Jr., Arthur Sumpter and Leroy Sumpter; six grandchildren, Jasmine Mickens, Kenneth Mickens, Jr., Kenyah Mickens-Smith, Terez Mickens Smith, Amy Caroll, Rod McCollum; a host of  great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30pm Saturday November 16, 2019 at White Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Cedric Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-12:30pm at the church
