Haywood Levon
Brown
Apr 17, 1945 — Dec 9, 2023
Haywood Levon Brown, beloved brother, uncle, friend, and caregiver, was born on April 17, 1945, in Winston-Salem, NC. He departed his Earthly home on December 9, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Haywood is a graduate of Anderson High School. His journey in the medical field began at the old Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital when he was just 21 years old. It was there that he discovered his life's calling as a caregiver. Throughout his career, Haywood dedicated himself to providing compassionate care to those in need. He was a caregiver to his dear friend Jackie Lewis and the late Pete Essick, touching their lives with his kindness and support.
In 2001, Haywood joined Bayada Nurses, where he continued to make a difference in the lives of his patients until his health began to decline. After 35 years of dedicated service, Haywood retired in 2007 from Novant Health, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and selflessness.
Even in illness, Haywood remained a devoted member of Antioch Christian Church, finding solace and strength in his faith. He lived his life guided by the teachings of Matthew 25:23, which states, " '…Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"
Haywood was preceded in death by his parents, James Brown Sr. and Lucy Brown, as well as his brothers Bobby L. Gaither, James Brown Jr., Eugene Brown, Charles Brown, and Tony Brown.
He is survived by his only sister, Delores Gilliam, affectionately known as Suga, and her husband and Haywood's Pastor, Rev. James A. Gilliam. Haywood will be lovingly remembered by his devoted niece April Gilliam, as well as nieces Charlene Barren (Alvester), Loretta Brown, Deborah Brown, Kathy Brown, and Charlotte Brown (Jimmy). He will also be missed by his nephews Rev. Adrian J. Gilliam, known as A.J., Eugene Brown Jr. (Catherine), Jimmy Brown, Timothy Brown, and Thomas Brown, and devoted sister-in-laws Ethel Brown and Barbara Brown. He had a special bond with his dear friend Lillie Wright, who provided unwavering support and companionship throughout his life. Haywood's kind and caring nature touched the lives of many, and he leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Francisca Odemelam and the staff and caregivers at Walnut Cove Health Rehabilitation Center for their exceptional care and support during Haywood's illness.
Haywood will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
