Obituary

On Friday, April 21, 2023, Ms. Helena J. Carter passed away peacefully at Oak Forest Rehabilitation Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was born on May 16,1939 in Winston Salem, NC to the late Eugene Durant and Frances M. Jefferson.

Helena attended the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and was a graduate of Atkins High School Class of 1956. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of service.

Helena was a faithful member of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. She faithfully served on several choirs and other auxiliaries.

Helena was a loving woman and she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends. She loved traveling to Walt Disney World in Florida every Thanksgiving with her family and friends before her health declined. She loved watching Wrestling, Basketball and Old Western Movies. She loved working Word Searches and Word Puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roosevelt Carter Jr., and daughter in law Cynthia W. Carter.

Left to embrace and cherish Helena's loving memories are her 3 sons, Marvin Carter of Greensboro, NC, Ronald Carter of Rural Hall, NC and Reginald (Tanisha Jackson) Carter of the city. one brother, Vannois T. Jefferson of the city; one sister, Sharon J. Rucker of the city; four grandchildren; Cinita Wilson, Tralena Carter, Corey Carter all of the city and Shanta Carter of Kissimmee, Florida; four great grandchildren; Dayshia Wilson, LoVae Wilson, LLionel Ferguson, Jr. and Coriah Carter all of the city; one great-great grandchild; Za'Kier Todd of the city; two devoted nieces, Kim McCullough(Alex) of the city, and Vernita(Antonio) Wilkins of the city; one nephew, Vannois Jefferson Jr.; she is also survived by a host of family, friends, bonus daughters and sons. A special and devoted bonus daughter, Natalie McQueen of the city.

Helena's love for her family and all the lives she touched will be greatly missed, but the sweet humble memories of her will live forever.

Public viewing will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, 12-6pm at Hooper Funeral Home. Family Visitation will be Friday, April 28, 2023, 11am-12pm at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, with Funeral Service following at Noon. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC.
