Obituary

Herman "Small Cake" Smith was born May 23, 1944, to the late Lewis and Gertrude Smith, in Clinton NC. On Friday, November 5, 2021, he answered his Heavenly Father's calling and gained his wings to eternal rest.

Herman to some and "Small Cake" to others received his education at Sampson County Training school in Clinton North Carolina.

At an early age, he moved to Newark, New Jersey. He resided there for over 30 plus years. He was an expert body and repairman, until his health declined, and he had to retire.

After a period of courtship, he met and married the love of his life Mary Ellen Bell. They joined in holy matrimony on June 28, 1974 and spent 56 years together. From this union they had two children, Tanya Marie Smith Belvin and Daron L Smith.

Herman relocated to Winston Salem North Carolina in 2002.

He joined St Stephen missionary Baptist church and attended as much as possible.

He was well known in the community as the neighborhood watch, they loved and adored him for his faithfulness.

Herman was a humble person and enjoyed helping his neighbors. One thing for sure Herman always had a cap or hat on.

Preceding him in death are one sister Emily "PeeWee" Smith Williams and two brothers Ronson "Joe" Smith and his twin Thurman Smith.

Left to cherish his memories is his devoted loving wife Mary Ellen Bell Smith of the home; one daughter Tanya Marie Belvin and one son Daron L Smith of Winston.
