Mr. Hugh N. Smith Jr. was born in Forsyth County, North Carolina to Hugh N. and Carrie Boling Smith, Sr. on May 28, 1941. He departed this life Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at his home.

Mr. Smith was a resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life where he graduated from Atkins High School and later attended North Carolina A&T State University. After college he worked on the NASA Apollo engine in New York City, was a Machine Tradesman at Ingersoll Rand, and later taught at the Career Center in the WSFC School System. Mr. Smith retired from WXII-TV.

He was also a photographer for the WSSU football and basketball teams and was an avid train enthusiast. Spiritually, he was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Steward.

He was married to Mary Forney Smith until her death in 2008. To this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister who died at birth, his wife and son, Jerome L. Smith.

Surviving are his kids: son, Jeffrey L. Smith and a daughter, Jacqueline Smith Toulon, both of Winston-Salem, NC; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12:00pm Monday, April 22, 2024 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with family visitation preceding at 11:30am. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. www.hooperfuneralhome.net.
