Rev. Isaac Carter Jr. was born November 28, 1928, in Barnwell, S.C. He was the beloved son of Isaac Carter Sr. and Oversia Hay Carter. On Tuesday, August 27, 2024 he transitioned from this earthly life at his residence.
Isaac was educated in Barnwell County Public Schools. He attended the Area Trade School in Denmark, S.C., and attended classes at Hood Theological Seminary at Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from Browning - Ferris Industries after working for 30 years. During this period, he accepted the call to ministry in 1967 where he was licensed under his Uncle, Dr. Warnie C. Hay, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC. Rev. Carter was the first son of Galilee. A year later, he was ordained, and served as supply pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church on 4th Sundays. He also pastored New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 30 years before retiring from the pastorate. Under his leadership, much progress and additions were made, including the mortgage burning.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan!!
Isaac was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Marion, William, Herman and Roosevelt Carter; sisters, Agnes Carter Hunter, and Josephine Carter Creech; son, Angus Carter.
He leaves very precious and cherished memories to the love of his life, whom he was married to just shy of 66 years, Lucy O'Berry Carter; a daughter Cathy Carter (Greensboro, NC); identical twin brother, Jacob Carter (Barnwell, SC); sister-in-law Retha Hazel (Gonza), Sacramento, CA;, grandchildren, Melissa Caudle (David) High Point, NC and Olivia Tucker, Cullohwee, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
"Two things I'm always prepared for. That is to preach God's Word, and to die. I would admonish you all to get prepared and stay prepared. Don't live a worldly life. Live a Godly life." Rev. Isaac Carter Jr.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday September 5, 2024 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:30am-11:00am at the church. Interment will follow the services at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
