Isadora Ann Jordan Rush Springs passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 88 at her Phoenix home on August 12, 2026.

Isadora was born January 27, 1938, in Winston-Salem to Matthew and Viola Grier Jordan.

Education was important to Isadora. A 1956 graduate of Atkins High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Winston-Salem Teacher’s College (Winston-Salem State University) and followed up with a master’s in education at North Carolina A&T State, making her among the first in her family to earn a master’s degree.

A native and a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, Isadora had a lasting impact on the community as a teacher.

During a career that spanned many decades, she made a difference in countless children's lives, helping to create the leaders of today. She retired from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools in 2011.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church Highland Ave, Isadora was a former member of the Adult Usher Board, Caregiver Ministry, Queen Esther Missionary, and a dedicated Gold Star Member, an honor reserved for the church’s most long-standing members.

Even though she left the area in 2025, she never missed a Sunday service, watching it on the church's live feed via YouTube faithfully each Sunday. She deeply valued the friendships and relationships made through the church.

Isadora furthered her commitment to the community as a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Rho Zeta Chapter, an organization focused on education and community outreach.

Isadora loved to travel. She lived in Baltimore and New York City early in life before returning to Winston-Salem. She took her daughter on countless trips, including adventures to Orlando, Atlantic City, and Myrtle Beach, to name a few. When moving to Phoenix late in life, she took the road trip of a lifetime, covering seven different states over five days at the age of 87, and by all accounts enjoyed herself. Later that year, in what would be her final adventure, she visited the Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

As a regular visitor to the Sprague Street Community Center, Isadora valued the friendships built there and was memorialized in a mural that covers the outside of the building.

Isadora also participated in programs at the Salvation Army’s Civic Senior Center located on New Walkertown Road, where she made friends and enjoyed many happy times.

Isadora's first marriage to Willie James Rush brought her two beloved sons, Maurice Rush and the late Ricardo Rush, Sr. In 1976, she married her late husband, Viotis A. Springs, and together they welcomed their daughter, Tamara A. Griffin (née Springs).

Isadora was preceded in death by her husbands, Willie James Rush and Viotis A. Springs; her son, Ricardo Rush, Sr.; her great-grandson, Malachi Coleman; her parents, Matthew H. Jordan, Sr. and Viola Grier Jordan; her siblings, Marjorie Jordan Ellis, Matthew H. Jordan, Jr. and Dorothy Mae Steele; her sisters-in-law, Stella Jordan and Jean Lash Jordan; her brothers-in-law, Denard Steele and Garland Ellis; and her niece, Delma Steele.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Maurice Rush, Sr. and Tamara Griffin (Justin); daughter-in-law, Darlene Rush; stepsons, Jerry Springs, Kenneth Springs and Ronald Rush (Beverly); grandchildren, Tamia Graves (Paul), Nia Forbes (Cody), Ricardo Rush, Jr., Maurice Rush, Jr., Keon Emanuel and Tyree Emanuel; great-grandchildren, Zain, Kai, Ariah, Carter and Jared; sister-in-law, Mary Williams; nieces and nephews, Sandra Jordan, Neenah Jordan Kelliebrew (Michael), Landrell Jordan (Evelyn), Darla Steele-Lyons (Pierre, deceased) and Demarco Steele; great-nephew, Terrez Steele (Courtney); and a host of extended family members, friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church Highland Ave on Monday Aug. 31, 2026 at 12pm. The family will receive friends from 11:30am-12pm at the church. Her remains may be viewed Sunday Aug 30, 2026 from 12 pm-5pm at the funeral home.
