Mr. James Lucas Benjamin Jr. aka "Ben" and "Butch" was born December 30, 1949 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late James Lucas Sr. and Mable Adams Benjamin. He attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools. "Butch" served his country in the United States Army as a Military policeman/detective. He retired from Douglas Battery with over 30 years of service.

He loved nature and just being around people.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Benjamin; aunts Rose Cooper, Dorothy Aldridge, Barbara Rawlins and Ann Adams; uncles Steve Adams and Marion Adams.

He departed this life Friday July 21, 2023 at Trellis Supportive Care Center.

He is survived by two sisters, Sandra Johnson of Bronx, NY and Jamie Booker of Winston-Salem, NC; aunts, Carretha Gilliam, Mildred Dendy, and Carolyn Jones; uncle Joseph Adams; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including a devoted friend, Samuel Branch.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday August 2, 2023 at the Salisbury National Cemetery. There will be no public viewing.

A repast will be held Wednesday following the services at the home of his niece Porsha Booker .
