Obituary

Mr. James Edward Blakely was born August 9, 1940 to the late J.W. and Glennie Adams Blakely in Laurens, South Carolina. He was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools. Mr. Blakely was a retiree of the Sara Lee Corporation. He favorite past time was taking care of lawns. He was an excellent lawn care man. Mr. Blakely was known throughout Winston-Salem for transporting people from grocery stores and wherever else they needed to go. He was loved by all.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara B. Martin; brothers, Jesse Blakely, Ronald Sheril Blakely, Moses Bob Blakely; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Johnson and Queenie Gray; two brothers-in-law, Clifford and David Covington.

Mr. Blakely departed this life Tuesday August 31, 2021 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife of the home Judy Covington-Blakely; children Beverly(John) Milligan, Barbie "Lisa" (Arthur) Neely, Michelle Blakely(Ernest Ingram). Katina Yountz and Angela "Nikki" Joyner; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Mattie Bailey and Ira Dean; four brothers, Thomas (Diane) Blakely, Herman (Dot) Blakely, Harold (Ella) Blakely and Thaddeus (Pauline) Blakely; devoted friend Will Robinson; two sisters-in-law, Laneta Covington and Pamela Castledavis; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Covington and Nathaniel Covington; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

A public viewing will be held Tuesday September 7 2021 from 12pm -6pm at Hooper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private.
