James Edward
Evans, Sr.
Jan 15, 1942 — Aug 21, 2021
James Edward Evans Sr., better known as "Pony," or "Papa Pony," moved to his home in heaven on August 21, 2021. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC on January 15, 1942, to Lula B. Robinson, the second of five children.
He was a graduate of Paisley School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and discharged as a Private First-Class November 1964. He was also a dedicated member of the American Legion and a retiree from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 20 years of service.
James was a God-fearing man who enjoyed fellowship at Winston-Salem First. James was ever patient with his family, generous with his friends and never failed to light up a room with his charismatic presence. James loved people and was passionate about everything he did. He always gave everybody a chance in life and didn't know a stranger. His favorite saying was, "You got to have love in your heart." He was an avid supporter and donor of the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. He loved sports especially golf and enjoyed going in the yard hitting a few a balls.
James loved to spend time with his grandchildren and would often speak about the joy they brought to his life. His life's goal was to spread the message of loving thy neighbor and honoring and respecting thy brother. James was a gift to all who knew him and touched countless lives. We will all feel his absence each day but can go peacefully knowing that he will never be forgotten. We hope that you will remember his laughter, his smile, his love and joy just as we will.
