Gunnery Sergeant James Wesley Ingram Sr. a distinguished and devoted veteran of the United State Marine Corps, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025 at the age of 79. GySgt. Ingram, affectionately known as "Toot" or " RIP" leaves behind a profound legacy of courage, service, and unwavering commitment to his nation.
Born on April 4, 1946, in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Birel and Daisy Diggs Ingram, James developed a deep sense of patriotism and a desire to serve from an early age. He was educated in the Forsyth County public schools.
After graduating, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and proudly served until retirement. During his illustrious career, Gy Sgt James W. Ingram, Sr. completed three tours of duty, retiring in 1990, he consistently demonstrated exceptional bravery and leadership in challenging circumstances. Among his numerous accolades, GySgt Ingram received many commendations recognizing his valor and dedication to duty. His steadfast commitment to his fellow Marines and his country served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of serving alongside him. He was honorably discharged with the esteemed rank of Gunnery Sergeant
He enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed his weekly phone calls from his niece, Barbara and pop up visits from his niece Linda. He would often be out with his nephews on Saturday playing horseshoes and watching football on Sunday. He often went fishing with and visited frequently with Noah Reynolds
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings.
GySgt. Ingram is survived by his children, James W. (Sha'lisa) Ingram Jr. of Mebane, NC, Elizabeth J. Ingram of Raleigh, NC and Le Rone A. Ingram of Alaska; grandchildren, Alexis L. Harmon, Abrianna L. Harmon, Alivia L. Ingram and Floyd L. Dunn III all of Raleigh, NC; his best friend whom he referred to as his brother, George Lyles; numerous nieces, including a devoted niece, Mary Love; numerous nephews, other relatives and friends who held him in deep affection.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Trellis Supportive Care Center for their compassionate care and support during this difficult period.
Gunnery Sergeant James W. Ingram Sr., will be profoundly missed by all who knew him; however, his legacy of service, courage, and love will endure eternally. "Semper Fi"
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30am Monday November 10, 2025 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00am-11:30am. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Walkertown, NC. His remains may be viewed Sunday November 9, 2025 from 12pm-5pm at the funeral home.
