Ms. Jessie Mae Amaker was born September 15, 1926 in Springfield, South Carolina to the late Ellaway and Matilda Amaker. She was a resident of Winston-Salem for most of her life. Jessie peacefully departed to her heavenly home Sunday September 13, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center following a brief illness.

Jessie was employed as a housekeeper until retiring in 2017. She enjoyed spending time with family as well as talking on the phone. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Betty Amaker; six sisters; and two brothers.

Jessie leaves to cherish her love and dear memories to her daughters, Anne Brown of Winston-Salem, NC and Lois (James) Powell of Greensboro, NC; son, Larry Amaker of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Teleah (Michael) Roberts, Andrea(William) Dodd, Alesa Hairston, Keya(Bruce)Williams, Andrew (Tamara) Hairston and Larry Oliver Jr.; her sisters, Eva Mae Brown of Columbia, SC and Louise Amaker of Jamaica, NY; nineteen great grandchildren; two great- great grandsons; other relatives and friends including a devoted friend, Nancy Spencer.

A public viewing will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from, 12pm-6pm at Hooper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be held at Gardens of Memory.
