Obituary

Mr. Jimmie Ted Rutledge Sr., 77, found a friend in Jesus Christ and purchased his ticket on October 16, 2021 at 12:04am. His ticket was stamped "Life Paid In Full". Come Home My Child for now he is "Resting Easy".

Jimmie a, a twin came into this world on January 6, 1944. He was the 7 th child of the late Samuel and Bertha Bloom Rutledge. He and his identical twin brother shared everything including the same nickname "Buddy Row".  They were born in Fort Valley, GA. In 1945 when the twins were less than 2 years old, the entire family moved to Winston-Salem, NC.

Jimmie aka, "Rut" & "Mr. Tibbs" attended Atkins High School and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1961. Jimmie was a faithful, longtime member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful trustee and he also drove the church station wagon on Sundays. He was also a longtime member of the Mate Chorus until his health began to decline. He retired after twenty years of service from the city of Winston-Salem in 2006 from the Department of Transportation. He received several citations and awards from the city of Winston-Salem. He also retired from the WSFC school system in March of 2016 after 20 plus years of service.

Now that Jimmie's work on earth is completed, he can be greeted by those who have gone on before him including his father, Samuel Rutledge, mother Bertha Bloom Rutledge, sisters, Emma Ruth Alexander, Ruby R. Roundtree, Lucy R. Johnson, Irene"Dot" Rutledge, and brother, Lewis Rutledge.

Jimmie leaves wonderful cherished memories behind to a devoted and loving wife of 36 plus years, who was also his caregiver, Mable Lewis Rutledge; two daughters, Rosita Rutledge of Akron, Ohio and Lee Antoinette (Angelo) Moore of Durham, NC; two sons, Jimmie Rutledge Jr. of Akron, Ohio and Charles Rutledge of Cleveland, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, including Chrisdon and Janeice Rutledge who lived with Jimmie and Mable and were like their own children; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Ree Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother Charlie (Yvonne) Rutledge of Buffalo, NY; sisters-in-law, Helen (Connell) Wilson, Charity Lewis, Delia Durham, Daisy(Larry) Robb and Noah Ramseur; brothers-in-law, Bobby Lewis, Griffin Lewis Jr. ad Allen(Janet) Lewis; a  host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and large church family.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Friday October 22, 2021 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11am-12pm Friday at the church.
